Psalm 146:1-2 N.R.S.V.
These well-known lines echo from our memories of church services and kitchen table prayer. If you read further, you will find out why the Psalmist thanks God in the first place. People like the oppressed, the hungry, the prisoners, the blind, the righteous, the strangers, the orphan and the widow have one thing in common. They were all delivered from terrible circumstances. All these folks have reason to be thankful. The only type of person who has reason to not be thankful is the wicked. God brings ruin to those who are wicked.
We enter the stewardship season in the church as thankful people. God has delivered us from poor leadership, and faithless members. We are blessed with excellent leaders and prayerfully faithful members who are united around the mission of our church. Now we need your input to help the elders know that the budget plans they put together will be paid for.
Our worship and preaching will start a sermon series in November with the focus on being thankful. Biblical stories will develop a rationale for receiving God's Grace. We will dedicate our anticipated pledges to the budget during worship on November 20th, for our pledge dedication Sunday. Your best financial estimate of 2017 giving, will go a long way toward the finalization of our general ministry budget.
Many realize that this is an interim time in our church's life. We are in the process of relocating and we do not have all the answers to specific questions. We appreciate you rededicating your financial resources to the church for 2017. The Lord will help us transplant our roots from where we are to where God wants us to go. Pray that generous giving will continue.
Thank you for being faithful receivers of God's Grace.
May God bless you with abundance and peace,
